M Special Color hair coloring for lightening and highlights
Choose M Special Color when your hair color is changed clearly from what you have now.

M Special Color is M Room’s color service for more demanding results. It includes full-head lightening, extensive highlighting techniques, multi-tone work and covering stubborn grays. Creativity is the only limit. The service starts at €84, and no appointment is needed.
The price includes the color treatment and a hair wash. The final price depends on the work done and the length of your hair. A haircut is charged separately.
Demanding color work takes time, so allow plenty of time in your day. You can also come in for a consultation before the visit itself.
About the M Special Color service
What does M Special Color include?
M Special Color includes the color treatment and a hair wash. The service covers full-head lightening, highlighting techniques beyond comb highlights, work with several colors, and gray that is stubborn to cover.
The visit starts with a consultation. Your barber goes through what’s possible with your hair, what the work costs and roughly how long it takes.
You can combine a haircut with the same visit. Choose both services as you join the queue, so that enough time is set aside for the work.
Who is M Special Color for?
M Special Color is for you when one of these applies:
- you want a result that’s considerably lighter than your hair is now
- the result calls for several different colors
- you want more pronounced highlights than comb highlights can give
- the gray in your hair is stubborn to cover and needs its own treatment.
So what decides it is your starting color and how far from it you want to get.
When is M Color enough?
Choose M Color (from €64) when you want to blend grays, add depth to your natural color, or brighten your look lightly with comb highlights. The practical rule is simple. If the result stays close to your own color, M Color is generally enough.
If you’re unsure, tell your barber what you want. Before starting, they’ll tell you which service matches what you’re after and what it will cost. You’ll find the full comparison on the color services page, or in short on our price list.
How long does lightening take?
Hair color always has a processing time, the time it’s left in the hair before washing. One processing time is usually 30 to 50 minutes, depending on the starting point.
A standard color has one processing time. Lightening and multi-tone work can have several, which makes the visit considerably longer. Your barber gives you an estimated duration during the consultation.
In some cases, reaching a fully light result can take more than one visit.
What does M Special Color cost?
M Special Color starts at €84. It’s a from price, because the final price depends on the work done and the length of your hair. Creating a striking change can take several stages and several processing times.
With the most demanding lightening work, an exact price is hard to give in advance. Even then you’ll get an estimate from your barber before the work starts, and you’ll be told if it changes along the way.
A haircut isn’t included in a color service and is charged separately. See our M Cut haircuts.
What can you add to M Special Color?
Coloring, and lightening in particular, puts a strain on the structure of the hair. A K18Peptide™ molecular repair treatment combined with an extended scalp massage costs €12 and fits naturally alongside lightening.
You can also add other M Premium Extra services to a color visit for €7–12 each.
You can choose your add-on when you join the queue in My M Room. You can also choose it with your barber at the shop.
Frequently asked about the M Special Color service
Yes, unless your hair is in really poor condition or there’s something else preventing it. Your barber assesses this in the consultation before any work starts.
No. You can join the queue in advance in My M Room, or come straight in and join the queue at the front desk. Do allow plenty of time in your day, though. If you would like more certainty, you can come in for a consultation before the visit itself.
Because the final price depends on the work done and the length of your hair. The longer your hair, the more color and working time are needed. Bigger changes can also take several stages, and lightening work can involve more than one processing time.
The bigger the difference between your own color and the colored or lightened shade, the more clearly the regrowth shows. It also means redoing the treatment more often. It’s worth bearing this in mind when you choose.
Yes. You can choose your barber at every M Room barbershop. You can also join the barbershop-wide queue. In that case the first barber who becomes free will serve you.
