Story starts from the barbers World Championships in Soul 1998

In 1998 Petri Sipiläinen and Toni Kylätasku took part in the barbers world championship in Soul. During the long competition days this pair had time to think about men as clients in traditional hair salons.They noticed that instead of being potential customers over the years, men had become more like a pain in the neck. Men could no longer get proper service in the industry where salons were fully designed to respond to women’s needs as clients.

Petri and Toni knew that making an appointment was complicated especially for men and time for even a quick trim was almost impossible to get just by walking into the salon. Offering traditional barber services was left in the hands of few professionals and getting a haircut had become forced and just a necessary thing for men.The need for a provider of traditional barber services was clear.

Memories from the childhood

Behind these thoughts were also Petri’s memories from his grandmother’s barbershop of the sixties. As a child he spent a lot of time with his grandmother and got to follow closely what was going on in the barbershop. The image of men, who came to the barbershop without a hurry, sitting on the sofa reading magazines and chatting, had remained in his mind.

“The atmosphere was calm, everybody enjoyed it and also got a great haircut”, Petri recalls, “Going to the barber shop is a big part of men’s world and masculine history.”
